Daily emotional charge
The title of this piece is "Daily Emotional Charge." It has to do with being in a codependent relationship and experiencing emotional exhaustion from always tending to someone else's needs. Cutting off someone can also mean metaphorically ripping a part of yourself in order to put an end.

This piece was made because I myself been stuck in a codependent relationship (platonic), it would be real bad where boundaries would be overstepped. It stops becoming an equal friendship/relationship when you feel responsible of taking care of someone else's needs 24/7. Communication is key and if they continue to disrespect your boundaries and threaten you/or themselves, it’s maybe just not worth sticking around with them anymore.

I was much influenced by the themes and artistic style of Eddy Atoms' "emotional support animals" comic and work in general, which you should definitely check out. As I type this, I haven't had a chance to read the graphic novel, but according to Eddy, in his interviews, he has explained the story: "Emotional Support Animal, takes place in a universe where mysterious beings able to interface with human brains are sold as genetically-engineered companions." I’ve taken heavy inspiration from this 'genetically engineered companian' except it has a plug and will need to plug it into someone's heart in order to recharge them emotionally. This creature whom is named Cora acts as a way to help emotionally support those around them. It gets too much to handle when taking full responsibility of someone else’s well being.

This is a traditional mixed media. I've used prismacolor pencils, brush pen, a bit of paint, cotton balls, and paper stars/other little trinkets.
The CD in the middle is a song by talkshow boy, specifically: "If you name it I'll eat it!" Why did I choose that song? Because it felt rather fitting as to the theme of putting others needs before yourself.

Why have I made this piece? Because I’m a big fan of the artist/cartoonist Eddy atoms. I’ve been following him for about two years now and have wanted to make a piece inspired by his work. He’s already been the reason why I wanted to start comics and now I want to take the opportunity to take that chance of making the piece. I already have listened to the two interviews he’s been in. The second reason is for others to relate to this piece and hopefully inspire another person who's been through the similar experience
